New and exciting things are always happening at
Flamingo Gardens, but we can't do it alone. As a private 501(c)3 not-for-profit foundation, we depend on volunteers in every area to help
Flamingo Gardens succeed. We hope that you will become a part of our team.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer on their own. Parents must sign a consent form. Applicants from 12 to 15 must have a parent or legal guardian volunteer along with them.
How Can You Help?
Whether you are a student performing high school community service hours, an adult who wishes to contribute spare time to a worthwhile cause, or a family that wants to be actively involved, there are many opportunities, whatever your skills. In most areas, no experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and help Flamingo Gardens thrive.
Volunteers usually commit to a regular schedule and come in once a week for a minimum of 4 hours, from 9:30 to 1:30 or 1:30 to 5:30, but in some areas schedules and requirements are different..
Food Services offer rewarding prospects. Serve at the Flamingo Cafe Snack Bar, Tropical Marketplace & Smoothie Bar, staff the Big Orange when it's rolled out for special events, or tend to the vending machines.

Do you love history? Become a Wray Home Guide (hours 10:00-1:00, 1:00-4:00 or help with historic research, archives and cataloging the collection.

Become an ambassador of the Gardens by volunteering for Hospitality and Information. Visit volunteer fairs, other outside events and local merchants to distribute information about the Gardens and events. At special events, staff the membership/information table.

Horticulture is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about gardening in the tropics. Care for plants in the Garden Shop, restock, repot, propagate, and help customers. Learn plant propagation in the Nursery (weekday mornings only). Speciality Gardening is a good way to get your hands dirty whether you love crotons, roses, butterfly or hummingbird gardening, amaryllis, iris, heliconia, the
Fragrance Garden or the Tropical Plant House.
Maintenance & Woodworking may be for you, if you're good with your hands. Volunteers build, refinish, paint and repair to help keep the Gardens in shape. Whether your ability is carpentry, painting, plumbing, electric work or just simple repairs, we have an opportunity to fit your skills.
Office work? There's lots of filing, phones, faxes and mailings. Computers? Data entry, e-mail, graphics or web site maintenance may be your contribution. Do you have experience with marketing, fundraising or grants? We can use your help.
Retail sales, restocking, and the inevitable dusting and straightening are always needed. The book collection and inventory in the Gift Shop are ever popular with volunteers.
Wildlife Care requires devotion, dependability and a long-term commitment because of the extensive training required to tend to our permanently injured birds and animals. Some experience is helpful. Must be at least 21 years of age and commit to a regular weekly schedule with a minimum of 4 hours. Exhibit maintenance starts at 7 am, rain or shine, and consists of cleaning and raking cages then moves on to feeding, which involves handling frozen rats, chicks and fish. |

Can't Come Every Week? If you can't volunteer on a regular basis, Special Events, held on weekends and holidays throughout the year, may be for you. There's a lot to do to set-up in the weeks before -- planning, marketing, mailing and scheduling. |
On event days, come in early at 7 am to help with vendor check-in and set-up. Later at 9:15-1:30 and 1:15-5:30, there's traffic control, security, membership tables and the Big Orange to staff, or come in later in the afternoon to help with breakdown and cleanup.
Our Flea Markets always require extra hands for pricing, display, set-up, sales and cleanup. |

You can also share your talents on an as needed basis with Special Projects. Art, photography, you name it. Let us know of your special skills and interests. We'll match them to a volunteer opportunity. |
